I absolutely loved this book I initially hesitated about buying it as I was a bit wary it would talk a lot about real life serial killers which really does not appeal to me at all I am of course perfectly OK reading about fictional serial killers But the book is much about what goes on in John s head and real life serial killers are just mentioned in passing, mostly to illustrate John s preoccupation with them, so I was OK with that There was one serial killer I hadn t heard of don t Google them it s grim I m puzzled by other reviewers who suggest it is a book for young adults based on the supernatural elements of the story I had no idea that such things as supernatural elements automatically conferred a reading age on a book Someone should probably tell Stephen King Anyway, I am 40 and I loved it, supernatural elements and all.John is such an intriguing character and you re simultaneously horrified and fascinated by how his mind works and how he deals with the problems of his inclinations He is also very darkly funny The story is really absorbing and it was all over far too quickly I immediately bought the next one the series A really great book Buy it. This isn t my usual choice of genre to read, but having heard good reviews, I thought I d give it a go And I was not disappointed From the outset, the book had me gripped and I couldn t put the book down.Good aspects to this book Lots of action and death throughout You get to read through the mind of a serial killer for some reason, this was particularly intriguing Not too many characters, and you do get to know all of the main characters in depth Couldn t always guess what was going to happen Gory if you re into that Interesting to understand John s character, and to see the constant battle he faces in his head John VS Mr Monster You enjoy trilogies you will definitely want to get your hands on book two after reading this oneSo why not 5 stars For me, there were lots too many questions left unanswered The paranormal supernatural element came as a bit of a surprise to me too, but I guess we will learn in books 2 and 3 Now to read Mr Monster spoiler I love how it was written from the perspective of a 15 year old It was written really well, and had vibes of dexter and catcher in the rye The emotion was brilliant and the depth of the protagonist was great I loved the knowledge the author displayed on serial killers and that John had traits, and his view of things was never faultered keeping in line his traits as a serial killer whilst narrating. However, 3 stars is all I d give it The writing style deserves 5 stars and most of the story deserves 4 stars But I just didnt like the parts that were unrealistic I didnt like the fact of a demon killing and dont prefer books on the paranormal side That is just preference on my part and I would definitely reccomend it as a book to read regardless of my taste or your own taste as the book itself is written wonderfully. John is a fifteen year old sociopath who has to battle a local demon to save his community.Things I liked Well written and very easy to read Really dark and quite explicit when describing the embalming process More than one layer to this story, leaves you wondering if John was telling the whole story or if he was delusional Very interesting and gets you thinking about the way a sociopath thinks The real story is about John s battle with his own impulses, and you know eventually he is going to lose.Reservations very few I ve seen this called YA but it is not, it s far too dark and gory in my opinion I wouldn t call it urban fantasy either to m, it s a story about the mind of a sociopath The beginning just began to be a bit repetitive when John was talking about what it was like to be a sociopath and giving information about serials killers Luckily the rest of the plot kicked in just before it got annoying.Summary This is a dark book, not a nice book, but very interesting Highly recommended. ( Ebook ) ♵ I Am Not A Serial Killer: Now a major film (English Edition) ⚕ I Am Not A Serial Killer is now a major film starring Christopher Lloyd and Max Records This is the first title in the thrillingly dark John Wayne Carver seriesJohn works in his familys mortuary and has an obsession with serial killers He wants to be a good person, but fears he is a sociopath, and for years he has suppressed his dark side through a strict system of rules designed to mimic normal behavior Then a demon begins stalking his small town and killing people one by one, and John is forced to give in to his darker nature in order to save them As he struggles to understand the demon and find a way to kill it, his own mind begins to unravel until he fears he may never regain control Faced with the reality that he is, perhaps, monstrous than the monster he is fighting, John must make a final stand against the horrors of both the demon and himself Meet John Wayne Cleaver a 15 year old sociopath who is convinced he is a serial killer, but is trying his hardest to fit it until a real serial killer turns up in his small town I loved this book, the writing, the dry, deadpan humour, the graphic gore and subtle sarcasm was right up my alley A really enjoyable book with a fascinating main character and wayhay there are 2 books in this trilogy off to to download now. Easy going, reminds me of early Stephen King movies set in small town America. The story has its charm, but may not appeal to the serious crime reader because of the killers nature don t want to spoil it.If your like me and enjoy different genres you will forgive its short comings and 99p is no great loss.I give it 4 stars because I enjoyed it and would like to read the next instalment, if drops the price. An Interesting Take on the Serial Killer story, with a schoolboy obsessed with serial killers coming up against a real life killer in his home town Well written with an interesting character at the heart of the story The twist that comes in the later stages of the book may divide some, but even so its definitely an unusual and memorable YA horror story.Crook s Wraith at Midnight Interesting plot, quirky characters and atmospheric story telling A good read that I can definitely imagine translating to the big screen plenty of tension, adrenaline and small town creepiness for Hollywood to pump up to the absolute max Didn t realise until I started reading it that i had seen the film so didn t read the book The film was good and usually the book is better than the film So probably worth a read.
